How to use Wooclap's LTI 1.3 integration
Wooclap integrates with your LMS via the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) 1.3 standard. Once the integration is installed, it is added to your list of available tools and allows you to create and present a Wooclap event, along with all of its features, from within your LMS.
Our LTI 1.3 integration is available for Wooclap users with a Campus or Corporate licence.
Install the LTI 1.3 integration
In order to use the LTI integration, you will need Wooclap access keys. Your institution's LMS administrator can request these through your organization's Customer Success Manager. They will also be able to guide the administrator in installing the required keys.
☝️ If you wish to install the plugin on multiple instances of your LMS (e.g., staging server and production server), each instance must have its own set of keys to avoid any unintended behaviour.
Authentication through an LMS
Before starting your event, make sure to activate the right authentication method in the main settings (LMS login), in order to be able to synchronise the Wooclap event with your LMS.
To do that, enter your event via your LMS. There, go to Settings (1) and you will be able to activate the LMS authentication (2). This setting is only available when you have reached your event through the LMS.
☝️ Results, attendance, and participation synchronisation only work for participants who are connected to the event via their LMS account. If you activate other authentication methods, you will not be able to synchronize grades for participants not authenticated through the LMS.
This has the added advantage of restricting students' access to the activity. By activating the LMS authentication, only students will be able to participate in the activity.
Add your Wooclap event to your course
To add a Wooclap event to your course, log in to your LMS account and choose the course in which you would like to add a Wooclap activity.
When in editing mode, click on Add an activity or resource and select the LTI 1.3 integration. A new window will appear where you will be able to name your Wooclap activity and add a description (the latter is optional). You will also find further options for your activity here.
Once you have created your LMS activity, you can either choose to import a quiz that you have previously created, duplicate a Wooclap event from the activities you have already integrated into your LMS, or create a brand-new Wooclap event if you leave None for both options. Finally, click on Save and display to automatically be redirected to the Wooclap interface.
☝️ Note that there can be some differences, depending on your LMS. Explore how exactly to create or add an event for each LMS in its own dedicated article.
Present your Wooclap event in an LMS
To present your Wooclap event, simply click on the activity you have created in your LMS. You will be redirected to your event. Then, click on Display or Start event, as you would for an event presented directly from Wooclap.
If you wish to synchronize grades with your LMS, you will need to activate LMS authentication from the event's settings.
When entering the event, participants will be automatically redirected to their LMS if they are already connected. Otherwise, they can connect to the event directly through the LMS by selecting the Wooclap activity in the corresponding course.
☝️ Note that depending on the LMS, there can be some differences in how participants connect to the event. Explore how exactly participants can take part by exploring your LMS's dedicated article.
Synchronize results, attendance, and participation
When you handle most of your sessions with a Learning Management System (LMS), it can be very useful to find the results of your Wooclap events there, too.
☝️ Be aware that you need to activate LMS authentication for your event for the grades to be synchronized. Note that the attendance sheet is not an authentication method and will not let you synchronize grades.
Results, attendance, or participation
Results, attendance, or participation
First, let's explore what we mean when we talk about results, attendance, or participation.
Results are the points acquired based on the correctness of the answer. This is what we call a score in Wooclap. In your LMS environment, this is converted into a percentage. Questions without a right answer (such as an Open question or a Word cloud) are not taken into account when calculating the results.
Attendance is only available if the attendance sheet is activated. Points for this are granted once the learner has signed the attendance sheet. The participant will have 100% if they signed and 0% if they did not sign.
Participation is scored based on the number of questions the participant answered compared to the total number of questions requiring an answer. This score is converted into a percentage in your LMS environment.
Sync the results, attendance, or participation
Sync the results, attendance, or participation
Once your session is over, click on Synchronise with LMS in the banner displayed at the top of the interface.
You can choose to synchronize results, attendance, and/or participation. The corresponding grades are then available in your LMS account, in the User report, or under Grades. Note that questions without correct answers are not taken into account (Open question, Word Cloud, …).
☝️ Some systems only allow the synchronising of one grade. Synchronizing all three grades is only possible with certain LMSs. Explore the possibilities for each LMS in its own dedicated article.
Using the LTI 1.3 integration with other integrations and features
You can use your event created through an LMS as you would any other event. Integrations and features will work the same as with an event you use directly through Wooclap.
Self-paced questionnaire
Self-paced questionnaire
You can create a self-paced questionnaire and share it with your participants, like you would for a questionnaire directly created in Wooclap.
Once you have gathered the answers, you can sync the session's grades like you would for an event directly presented through your LMS: log in to your LMS and click on the activity. Then, choose the grade you wish to synchronize.
☝️ Note that when synchronizing grades, you will see the grades for the live session and self-paced session together. If you wish to only grade one of the two sessions, either reset your event or duplicate it.
PowerPoint
PowerPoint
You can integrate your Wooclap questions into your PowerPoint presentation as you would with an event directly created in Wooclap. Make sure to log in to the PowerPoint add-in using the same email address as your LMS account, so as to have access to your activity.
Once you have finished your PowerPoint presentation, you can sync the session's grades like you would for an event directly presented through your LMS: log in to your LMS and click on the activity. Then, choose the grade you wish to synchronize.
Themes
Themes
You can apply themes like you would for any other event. You can choose the presentation theme as well as the color scheme that will be shown on the participants' screens. You can even add your institution's logo to your presentation.
Collaboration
Collaboration
You can add collaborators to a course created through an LMS.
☝️ Note that in some instances, a collaborator in your LMS course will automatically be added as a collaborator to your Wooclap event. Explore the possibilities for each LMS in its own dedicated article.
