How to use Wooclap's LTI 1.3 integration in Brightspace
Wooclap integrates with Brightspace via the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) 1.3 standard. Once the integration is installed, it is added to your list of available tools and allows you to create and present a Wooclap event, along with all of its features, from within your Brightspace instance.
Our LTI 1.3 integration is available for Wooclap users with a Campus or Corporate licence.
Install the LTI 1.3 integration
To use the LTI integration, you will need Wooclap access keys. Your institution's LMS administrator can request these through your organization's Customer Success Manager. They will also be able to guide the administrator in installing the required keys.
Are you your organization's LMS administrator? You can find our setup guide here.
☝️ If you wish to install the plugin on multiple Brightspace instances (e.g., staging server and production server), each instance must have its own set of keys to avoid any unintended behaviour.
Add a Wooclap event to your course
To add a Wooclap event to your course, log in to Brightspace and choose the course and module in which you would like to add a Wooclap activity. Then, go to Existing Activities (1) and choose the Wooclap LTI 1.3 integration (2).
Once you have added your activity, you will be able to link a resource: this can be an event created from scratch, a duplicated event, or a template.
Create your event from scratch
Create your event from scratch
First, select Create from scratch and click on Continue. Then, you can give your new event a title and click on Continue. This will create your event.
You will then go back to your module and see all activities linked to it. Here, click on your new activity. You will be able to create questions, import questions, and change settings, as you would on Wooclap.
You can then edit your course from Brightspace (through your module) or from Wooclap. Note that you will need to present your event from Brightspace to later synchronize grades.
Duplicate an existing course
Duplicate an existing course
Once you have added your new activity, select Duplicate an existing event. Choose the event you want to duplicate (1), then click Confirm choice (2). Give your new event a title and click on Continue. This will create the new duplicated event.
You will then go back to your module and see all activities linked to it. By selecting your new activity, you can edit it from Brightspace (through your module) or from Wooclap. Note that this duplicated event will have a different code than the original one. Additionally, you will need to present your event from Brightspace to later synchronize grades.
Choose a template
Choose a template
You can also choose to import a template to present your event through Brightspace. To do this, and once you have added your new activity, select Choose a template. Click on Continue and choose or search for your template (1) - whether from your organization or a public one. Once you have selected your template, click on Confirm choice (2) and give your event a name. Finally, click on Continue.
You can then further edit your course from Brightspace (through your module) or from Wooclap. Note that this event will have a different code than the original one. Additionally, you will need to present your event from Canvas to later synchronize grades.
Authentication through an LMS
When you edit and present your event through an LMS, the correct authentication method (LMS login) is automatically and permanently activated to seamlessly synchronize the Wooclap event with your Brightspace gradebook.
Because this setting is mandatory for integration and grade synchronization, it cannot be deactivated or modified while accessing your event through the LMS.
This has the added advantage of restricting students' access to the activity. By activating the LMS authentication, only students in your course will be able to participate in the activity.
☝️ Results, attendance, and participation synchronisation only work for participants who are connected to the event via their Brightspace account. If you activate other authentication methods, you will not be able to synchronize grades for participants not authenticated through their Brightspace account.
Present your Wooclap event through Brightspace
To present your Wooclap event, simply click on the activity you have created in Brightspace. You will be redirected to your event, where you can click on Start event (1) or Display (2), as you would for an event presented directly from Wooclap.
When entering the event, participants will be automatically redirected to Brightspace if they are already connected. Otherwise, they can connect to the event directly through the event itself or through Brightspace by selecting the Wooclap activity in the corresponding module.
Synchronizing grades
☝️ Be aware that you need to activate LMS authentication for your event for the grades to be synchronized. Note that the attendance sheet is not an authentication method and will not let you synchronize grades.
In Brightspace, you can synchronize results, attendance, and participation for one event. You can also choose to only synchronize one of the three grades. To discover the meaning of each grade, refer back to this article.
You can synchronize grades once your session is over by clicking on Synchronize with LMS in the banner displayed at the top of the interface.
The corresponding grades are then available under Class Progress. Note that questions without correct answers (such as Open questions or Word Clouds) are not taken into account. If you synchronize multiple grades, you will see multiple rows corresponding to results, attendance, and participation.

First, go into your course and select the Settings ⚙️ on the top right side of the screen (1). Then, search for Import/Export/Copy Components (2) and select the corresponding setting (3).
Select the option Export as Brightspace Package (1) and click on Start (2).
👆 The file has to be exported as a Brightspace Package and not as a Common Cartridge.
A new tab will open where you can select the components you wish to export. Here, select the checkbox Quizzes among the list of components, then click on Continue.
You will then be asked to confirm the components to export. Click on Export to confirm.
Once the download is complete, you will receive a notification in your dashboard. You can access the menu to download your file by clicking on the bell on the top right (1) and then clicking on the corresponding notification (2).
After extracting the zip, you will get a file titled imsmanifest.xml and various files called quiz_(name of your course).xml. You should only use the documents quiz_(name of your course).xml for the import into Wooclap to work.
Importing questions into Wooclap
Importing questions into Wooclap
In order to import your Brightspace XML files into Wooclap, select the event in which you want to import your Brightspace quizzes, and click on Import questions.
In this new tab, choose the option Brightspace (1) and select the file to import by clicking on Import a file (2).
All there is left to do is select your files, and they will be imported into Wooclap.
👆 Note that only Brightspace quizzes can be exported to Wooclap. There are a few limitations to take into account as well when it comes to question types in Brightspace and in Wooclap:
The Multiple Choice question type becomes a MCQ question type in Wooclap with only one correct answer.
The Multi-Select question type becomes a MCQ question type in Wooclap with various possible answers.
The Short Answer question type becomes an Open Question in Wooclap.
The Multi-Short Answer question type becomes an Open Question in Wooclap where all the answers are listed once imported into Wooclap.
Matching in Brightspace differs slightly from Wooclap. Indeed, in Wooclap there is always a matching element per destination. Please note that Arithmetic and Significant figures aren’t supported.
The Long Answer question type becomes an Open Question in Wooclap.
Collaborating on a Wooclap event
You can add collaborators to your Wooclap event, just like you would in an event created through Wooclap.
☝️ Note that if you have collaborators linked to your Brightspace course, these will automatically be collaborators to any Wooclap assignment in your course.
