How to use Wooclap's LTI 1.3 integration in Canvas
Wooclap integrates with Canvas via the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) 1.3 standard. Once the integration is installed, it is added to your list of available tools and allows you to create and present a Wooclap event, along with all of its features, from within your Canvas instance.
Our LTI 1.3 integration is available for Wooclap users with a Campus or Corporate licence.
Install the LTI 1.3 integration
To use the LTI integration, you will need Wooclap access keys. Your institution's LMS administrator can request these through your organization's Customer Success Manager. They will also be able to guide the administrator in installing the required keys.
☝️ If you wish to install the plugin on multiple Canvas instances (e.g., staging server and production server), each instance must have its own set of keys to avoid any unintended behaviour.
Add a Wooclap event to your course
To add a Wooclap event to your course, log in to Canvas and choose the course in which you would like to add a Wooclap activity. Then, go to Assignments (1) and click on + Assignment (2).
Fill in the details on the page that appears: name, description, and points (1). Under Submission Type, choose External Tool (2). Then, click on Find (3). We recommend you activate the option to load the tool in a new tab (4), but this is optional.
Choose the Wooclap integration, and you will be asked to link a resource: this can be an event created from scratch, a duplicated event, or a template.
Create your event from scratch
Create your event from scratch
First, select Create from scratch and click on Continue. Then, you can give your new event a title and click on Continue. This will create your event.
You will then go back to your tool selection screen. Here, click on Select to add it to your course. Then, save your new assignment, and you will be redirected to your Wooclap event.
☝️ Note that this can take some seconds - do not close the window while the integration is loading.
You will be able to create questions, import questions, and change settings, as you would on Wooclap.
💡 Do you wish to edit your event later? You can always find your event back in your Assignments list. Note that you can also edit your course from Wooclap to use it in Canvas. However, you need to present your event from Canvas to later synchronize grades.
Duplicate an existing event
Duplicate an existing event
Once you have added your new assignment, select Duplicate an existing event. Choose the event you wish to duplicate and click on Confirm choice. Give your new event a title and click on Continue. This will create the new duplicated event.
You will then go back to your tool selection screen. Here, click on Select to add it to your course. Then, save your new assignment, and you will be redirected to your Wooclap event.
☝️ Note that this can take some seconds - do not close the window while the integration is loading.
You can then edit your course from Canvas (through your Assignment page) or from Wooclap. Note that this duplicated event will have a different code than the original one. Additionally, you will need to present your event from Canvas to later synchronize grades.
Choose a template
Choose a template
You can also choose to import a template to present your event through Canvas. To do this, and once you have added your new assignment, select Choose a template. Click on Continue and choose or search for your template - whether from your organization or a public one. Once you have selected your template, click on Confirm choice and give your event a name. Finally, click on Continue.
Note that this event will have a different code than the original one. Additionally, you will need to present your event from Canvas to later synchronize grades.
Once your Wooclap event is ready, you can add it to your Canvas course. To do so, go to Home (1) and click on the plus-sign + (2) next to the module you wish to add the event to.
Next, choose Add Assignment (1) and select your Wooclap event (2). Finally, click on Add Item (3).
💡 Note that you can also create a new assignment from here by selecting the corresponding option on top of the assignment list.
You will then find your event in the Canvas module. Here you can click on the event to edit or present it.
Authentication through an LMS
When you edit and present your event through an LMS, the correct authentication method (LMS login) is automatically and permanently activated to seamlessly synchronize the Wooclap event with your Canvas gradebook.
Because this setting is mandatory for integration and grade synchronization, it cannot be deactivated or modified while accessing your event through the LMS.
This has the added advantage of restricting students' access to the activity. By activating the LMS authentication, only students in your course will be able to participate in the activity.
☝️ Results, attendance, and participation synchronisation only work for participants who are connected to the event via their Canvas account. If you activate other authentication methods, you will not be able to synchronize grades for participants not authenticated through their Canvas account.
Present your Wooclap event through Canvas
To present your Wooclap event, simply click on the assignment you have created in Canvas. You will be redirected to your event. Then, click on Display or Start event, as you would for an event presented directly from Wooclap.
When entering the event, participants will be automatically redirected to Canvas if they are already connected. Otherwise, they can connect to the event directly through the event itself or through Canvas by selecting the Wooclap activity in the corresponding course.
Synchronizing grades
☝️ Be aware that you need to activate LMS authentication for your event for the grades to be synchronized. Note that the attendance sheet is not an authentication method and will not let you synchronize grades.
In Canvas, you can synchronize results, attendance, or participation for one event. You can only synchronize one of the three grades at a time. To discover the meaning of each grade, refer back to this article.
You can synchronize grades once your session is over by clicking on Synchronize with LMS in the banner displayed at the top of the interface.
The corresponding grades are then available under Grades. Note that questions without correct answers (such as Open questions or Word Clouds) are not taken into account. If you synchronize your grades multiple times, the most recent synchronized grade will be shown.

Importing questions into Wooclap
Importing questions into Wooclap
In your Wooclap interface, click on Import event and choose Other sources. This will let you use the Importer AI agent to import your questions. Here you will be able to add your XML file, so your questions are created in Wooclap.
Collaborating on a Wooclap event
You can add collaborators to your Wooclap event, just like you would in an event created through Wooclap.
☝️ Note that if you have collaborators linked to your Canvas course, these will automatically be collaborators to any Wooclap assignment in your course.
