Creating engaging matching questions in Wooclap
The Matching question is a fun and intuitive exercise that can be used to stimulate participants of all ages.
Please note that:
It's not possible to match two images
Mathematical formulas like LaTeX and AsciiMath formulas are only supported on the left side of the Matching interaction
How to set up matching questions
As with any other question, start by selecting New question when you are editing your event. You can then choose Matching under Asses Understanding.
Looking for inspiration? Head over to the template page and download one of the existing templates for the Matching question type!
You can also import an already created Matching question from our Examples gallery. Head on to Examples gallery and choose Matching under Question type. You can then add the Matching of your choice to your event.
You can even create your Matching questions using AI. Discover how to use Wooclap AI here.
Customize your Matching question
To create a Matching question, you need to fill in a question and provide items which the participants will have to match.
On each row, fill in one item from one column and the corresponding item from the second column. The matches you fill in here are the correct answers to the question.
You can also add images to the first column, either to provide an additional clue or to ask students to match a description to an image (Example: "Match the name of a country to that country flag").
To add an image, click on the button to the right of the question or item and select an image from your computer.
Lastly, you can also match several elements to the same destination.
☝️ If you add sounds to your questions, you'll have to play each audio manually.
Display the question
When you start a matching question, it is possible that the items of both columns will be displayed in the correct order on your screen, because that order is determined randomly.
If you want to "randomize" the order of the items, you can do so by duplicating the question (using the three dots next to the question on your event interface).
By duplicating the question, a new random order will be determined. Please note that this new order may, again, be the correct one. In that case, duplicate the question again.
For matching questions, the participants' incoming answers are hidden by default.
Once you're ready to display the results, click on the button on the left side of the screen to reveal the most frequent answers. You can then see how many students matched certain items. You can then display the correct answer yo your audience.
Participant view
Once you start the question, participants will see the items from the first column displayed below each other. For each item, they will have to select the corresponding item from the second column in a drop-down list.
